Our pastor, Harold Hoffman is in demand to speak all over the world. His ability to take the most complex aspects of and hidden wonders contained within the Bible and convey them in a simple and yet powerful message will often leave you speechless and craving for more of a peek into the hidden treasures of God's Word. All it takes is one listen and you will quickly realize that this isn't the typical preaching that you may be accustomed to. You truly have to hear it for yourself...

As for our future, it can only be possible because of our history. A history that began with Carl and Mary Hill. What few families they started with were called back to their home church in the hopes of having Carl and Mary return to lead the Sunday School they had led successfully for many years. They stayed. Their game plan was simple. Start a church with children and love them. They will grow up one day and be the church we envisioned.

We hope that First Church in Sterling Heights Michigan can be for you what it has been to so many... A home, a church in Michigan that promotes family and love for one another, a church right in your neighborhood that seeks to get Jesus back out into that neighborhood, and even for some who may be feeling lost, A Place of Direction.

As for our future, it can only be possible because of our history. A history that began with Carl & Mary Hill. They were retired. It was the time when you slow down and enjoy what you have saved for in your “golden years”. That may be fine for many people but not them.

Their beginning was in a storefront on John R in Madison Heights that began the last Sunday in May of 1962 with 9 members. Five of these members were adults and 4 were under 6 years of age. But, children was the secret they were relying on. Children - grow them and you will “grow” a church. No internet, no fancy printing equipment just simple flyers handed out by the children that “drew” and then “grew” a small congregation.

They cashed in all they had put away to allow their congregation to continue to expand and they built a church and put on 2 additions. Increase continued and from there they purchased an elementary school and remodeled it in April 1979. In Spring of 1993 we moved into our present location. You have it in a nutshell - from that “humble beginning” First Church is where and what it is today.

We hope that First Church in Sterling Heights can be for you what it has been to so many....a home where you can “grow” your children to know God and trust that in an unstable world they have a “rock” they can cling to.

First Church desires to be a church that promotes family and love for one another. A place for those who may feel lost and need “A Place of Direction”.
